| Minute
balls of olive-green clinochlore / chlorite included in some of the
quartz crystals we find in the Western Cape, South Africa. This photograph was taken with a
microscope camera and the mineral identified by Dr. Cesar Menor-Salván,
a scientist and acquaintance of ours, who lives in Spain.
Frequently
one finds that there are minute, rusty-coloured indentations on the
surface of these crystals. These were probably caused by
clinochlore balls that were once on the surface, but have since eroded
away, and the dents stained by (?)goethite / iron oxide.
