Schorl with Hyalite Opal – NAM 017

Measurements:  100 x 70 x 55 mm

Description:  A multi-sided cluster of schorl crystals (variety foitite) with bits of hyalite opal (image top right) and feldspar.

This excellent specimen has very little damage - a few contact marks and small nicks. It displays well on a flat surface in various positions.

Chemical Composition:  NaFe²⁺₃Al₆Si₆O₁₈(BO₃)₃(OH)₄ (schorl) 
                                       SiO₂•1.5(H₂O) (basic opal) 
                                        KAlSi₃O₈ (feldspar)

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (schorl) 7.5
                                           (basic opal) 5.5 - 6 
                                            (feldspar) 6 - 6.5
