Calcite and Chalcedony Geode – NAM 035

Measurements:  128 x 78 x 53 mm

Description:  A calcite geode with dogtooth calcite crystals and aggregates chalcedony. When looking closely through good magnification, one can see a tinge of blue-green colouring in the chalcedony.

This is one of only two specimens we have from a rare find, and we (and some of the Brandberg experts) haven't seen any other either.

Some of the calcite crystals have nicks.

Chemical Composition:  CaCO₃ (calcite) 
                                       SiO₂ (quartz and chalcedony) 

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (calcite) 3
                                                   (quartz and chalcedony)  6.5 to 7

Location:  Namibia. Exact locality unknown, but most probably from the Brandberg area.
