Drusy Quartz Crystals on Matrix OTH 005

Drusy light amethyst quartz crystals on matrix

Measurements:  72 x 66 x 41 mm

Description:  Drusy quartz crystals, along with some minute calcite crystals, on a matrix of basalt rock and (?)malachite (image bottom left). The quartz crystals have mostly a light amethyst colouring, and a few have bits of a brownish mineral included, possibly epidote.

Most of the quartz crystals have minute nicks, with about three being badly damaged. The edges of the specimen are damaged, where it parted from the neighbouring rocks.

The specimen has been trimmed at the bottom and two of its sides, so it displays well on a flat surface.

On one of its smallest trimmed sides are two small holes, of which we don't know the origin. It looks like perhaps a previous owner had drilled these to insert some type of stabilizing device, for upright display (image bottom right).
